Are people frightened by the thought of depression and the accompanying thoughts that sometimes go with it? I get the distinct impression from some of the people around that I shouldn’t be talking about it quiet so openly. Nuts to that! I was raised in a house where you never told anyone if there was something wrong…suck it up and go on, pretend everythings hunky dory. I won’t sweep anything under the rug. I’ve come to far. I sure won’t make my beloved child paste a smile on and pretend she’s happy when she’s not. If we all do that, then how do we know when we’re faking and when it’s real?

oh. you’ve noticed?
I say “fuck ‘em”
I’ve just come back from a meeting with the Principal about my 11 yr old son. Apparently he is being verbally sexually abused at weekends and his cousin is being physically abused, I hope not my son too. Oh gee, there is so much to deal with when you have a kid and I am a single parent in fear of the violent ex. Oh dear….
Are you really in Zimbabwe?
I think people are afraid of things they don’t understand ~ talking about it can only help educate and inform, and hopefully lessen the accompanying fear. The thing is, depression isn’t just scary for people who suffer from it ~ it’s terrifying for anyone who is watching a loved one go through that. Keep talking, keep that communication open ~ I hope it helps both of you
